Dayot Upamecano, Joshua Kimmich, Julian Nagelsmann, and the former manager of France discuss Germany’s possibilities.

The matchup between Germany and the French team on Saturday is one that former France manager Raymond Domenech is looking forward to.

“It’s an excellent opportunity for the German national team to demonstrate their current capabilities. We were always familiar with every member of the German national team, unlike when I was the coach of France. Occasionally, one or two fresh ones appeared. However, it is currently impossible to guess which squad they will play for. Their lack of a cohesive squad is their biggest issue. Domenach told Tz’s Philipp Kessler, “Germany has a completely new generation” (as caught by @iMiaSanMia).

Julian Nagelsmann, Germany’s head coach, is one of the main players in their success, according to Domenech. The 72-year-old believes the coach can validate his claims with a solid performance in the EUROs.

“Nagelsmann was successful at every team he played for, but things at Bayern were not going well. But coaching a national team is a whole other ballgame. You can argue that he is a pretty good coach if he leads Germany to at least the final of the domestic tournament, Domenech added.

Domenech is excited to see France’s Kylian Mbappé take on Germany’s Joshua Kimmich in a pivotal clash in the game. It will take more than one German to slam the brakes on Mbappé, the former coach stated.

That will put Kimmich to the test. But Germany needs to understand that Mbappé cannot be stopped by a single player. This calls for multiple participants and effective planning. Mbappé will score if you leave him alone, Domenach said.

The subject of Dayot Upamecano, who has been benched at Bayern Munich, was finally brought up by Domenech.

“Upamecano is comparable to the German national team right now. You never know what kind of performance you’ll get from him—you can get something nice, something not so good, or something horrible. He is afflicted with the German “disease.” Sometimes he was in a good phase. However, Domenech noted that he is not a consistently good player.
